Mellissa has been farming all of her life at Cloud-Cap Farms. They milk 200 Holstein cows in Boring, Oregon and have a stunning view of Mt. Hood. Melissa remembers when she was younger and how she enjoyed working side by side with her dad and while he was milking and caring for the cows she would sing to him and help out. One of the best parts of having a family farm is that you can work side by side with your husband, your kids and in her case her parents, too. Melissa also likes to ride horses, play with her kids, fish, hunt, and camp with family and friends. Her family is newer to organic farming and she is excited to learn everything she can. Melissa wants to continue to learn and teach future generations for years to come on what it means to be an organic farmer and what it takes to become one.
Melissa says, “I am thrilled to visit classrooms during the Teach-In and use the opportunity to share my passion about our family farm, teach them about organic farming and how rewarding it is to be an organic farmer!”
