Center for Ecoliteracy

The Center for Ecoliteracy supports and advances education for sustainable living.

CEL believes that schools play a pivotal role in moving us beyond our growing environmental crises and toward a sustainable society. They recognize schooling for sustainability as a process that fosters abundant living on a finite planet and makes teaching and learning come alive. Their passion stems from a conviction that the best hope for learning to live sustainably lies in schooling that returns to the real basics: engaging with the natural world; understanding how nature sustains life; nurturing healthy communities; exploring the consequences of how we feed and provision ourselves; caring about the places where we live and the people and creatures in them.

Ecotrust’s Food and Farms program endeavors to make sustainability the underlying value of the mainstream food system—the norm, not the exception. Through far-reaching projects, we build the market for locally grown, raised and processed foods in our own community and shorten the actual and perceived distance between eaters and their food sources. In turn, the economic vitality of our region becomes stronger in company with our personal and environmental health.

Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance

Founded in December 2006 by biodiesel advocates Kelly King, Annie Nelson and Daryl Hannah, the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance (SBA) was created to promote sustainable biodiesel practices, including the harvesting, production and distribution of biodiesel fuels. The SBA is facilitating a multi-stakeholder dialogue involving family farmers, environmental groups, biofuels experts, urban and rural communities and others in order to create a seal that will certify sustainably produced biodiesel. By working with the farmer who grows the feedstock, the producers who process biodiesel, the large fleet biodiesel user and communities seeking cleaner air, green jobs and energy security, the SBA is bringing people together to build a sustainable energy future that benefits all sectors of society.
