Why Breakfast?
Parents have long known the value of a good, wholesome breakfast. Now research backs this common sense:
- Numerous studies suggest consumption of a healthy breakfast is a winning strategy to promote healthy eating and a healthy body mass index (BMI).(1)
- Many studies have documented the connection between eating breakfast and optimal work, athletic, and academic performance.(2)
- A 2008 study touts the benefit of the “Big Breakfast Diet,” which proposes, “To lose weight and keep it off, eat a big breakfast packed with carbohydrates and protein, then follow a low-carb, low-calorie diet the rest of the day.”(3)
More About Breakfast
No matter whether we ate leftovers from the night before or more traditional toast and eggs, my mother knew that an empty stomach left the brain impaired. Little did she know I’d grow up to be a dietitian, promoting her infinite wisdom, with cold, hard science to back me up.
