Learning Bird Names

I read your message today with great interest. It was a good "kick in the pants" to realize that I really am not too busy to learn the names of birds who flit around our yard/neighborhood. I am one of those people who have been wanting to do so, but just haven't. Thank you for reminding me that a small gesture can be very significant. For me, I want to teach our young son that nature is significant, and a source of great joy.

Dear Diana:

Wow. Great letter Diana, thank you.  You’re just the person I want to see teaching the children the things they “really” need to know.  Feeding the birds and learning their names is only a part of the many joys that will come from learning what compassion truly is.  It’s your lucky day, this week’s article, takes feeding the birds to another, more personal level.  How to get the birds to come close, very close, an inch or less from your nose if you like.  It’s sure to melt the heart of any child, young or old.
