Living in the wild

I watched a show recently on our local public broadcasting station (PBS) which is publicly funded by businesses and individuals. It was about a man who lived the better part of 35 years of his life in the wilderness, alone, in a cabin he built by hand. It was so interesting and it reminded me of Dan. This guy was amazing! he made bowls and utensils out of wood he cut from trees, made syrup from cranberries for his homemade biscuits. About once a month a small plane delivered supplies of things like coffee, sugar, flour and other necessities, but otherwise he was alone most of the time. They filmed him going about his daily routine, chopping wood, fishing (his cabin was near a river), hunting and building various items for his shelter. I think it was called living in the wild or something but it was just wonderful.

Yes!  I did see that show, as luck would have it & happened to see that very show at some friend’s house about a year ago.  It’s rare for me to see any TV but I was mesmerized by the guy who built his own house in the middle of nowhere with little more than his own two hands.  He made everything he used.  He really blew me away.  I’ve learned how to take care of myself under basic conditions over the years but that guy could take it to another level.  I was never one to want to spend that much time to make myself comfortable.

He made his little heaven on earth and I’ve made mine.

Thanks for bringing him to my attention and thank you very much for reading Down Nature’s Trail.

Naturally yours,

Dan
