Loons

Your articles are a welcome addition to my e-mails, especially the ones about birds. My mother is an ornithologist in Western Pennsylvania and she raised me to love and respect nature, and to understand the important (and musical) role that birds play in the ecosystem. I have, for example, witnessed the migration of evening and pileated grosbeaks through our yard, as well as the rufous-sided towhee and the always delightful downy woodpecker. . .Thank you for terrific writing. The New York Times published an article in the Friday, Sept 13 Metro Section about the loons in Adirondack State Park: "Romancing the Loons: It's Chivalry in the Wild." You can check out the website that has a recording of the loon at www.adirondackcouncil.org. I don't think it will sound like being on a lake in Wisconsin, but we easterners love our wildlife, too.CMK
