Organic Valley's New Vermont Cheddar Captures Classic Vermont Flavor in Three Varieties
From certified organic cows pastured in the fertile, verdant valleys of Vermont to kitchens and dining rooms nationwide, Organic Valley Family of Farms is now offering organic Vermont Cheddar Cheese, a premium cheese in celebration of its region's distinct flavor.
Organic Valley is distinct in that it offers locally produced and labeled products in various regions throughout the United States, such as Organic Valley New England Pastures milk, which comes from 155 family farmer members in New England. Vermont Cheddar is another step toward fulfilling the cooperative's regional mission.
"The entire community in Vermont—both farmers and residents—are excited to have a new locally produced cheese," said Regina Beidler, an Organic Valley farmer from Randolph Center, Vermont. "Nothing gives farmers more pleasure than being able to identify a product that includes their milk and share it with friends, neighbors and our community."
More than 60 Organic Valley family farmers are contributing to the production of the cheese, which is available in three varieties—Medium, Sharp and Extra-Sharp—in 1 lb blocks at suggested retail prices of $11.49, $11.99 and $12.49. Vermont Cheddar Cheeses are available at select organic and natural food grocers and will be distributed more broadly in the months ahead. The Vermont cheddars are white cheddars with a rich, nutty flavor, made with non-GMO animal rennet for optimal aging, body and flavor.
Twenty years ago, Organic Valley became the first organization to sell certified organic cheese nationwide. Since then, the cooperative of 1,296 organic farmers has won numerous national and international awards for the delicious cheese made from the milk of their organic cows pasturing on family farmland nationwide.
Organic Valley hand selects the cheese to become Vermont Cheddar Cheese, a premium organic cheddar, to be enjoyed as an hors d'oeuvre or in an elegant brunch omelette. Add Vermont Cheddar to soups, or sauces for steamed vegetables and baked dishes. The longer cheddar cheese is aged, the more crumbly it becomes and the better it is for cooking. Enhance apple pie with a slice on top, or add it to the crust. Vermont Cheddar goes well with apples, pears, onions, tomatoes, red wines like Zinfandel or Merlot, pale ales and stout beers.
Organic Valley Vermont Cheddar Cheese is a wholesome, delicious and nutritious choice for those who want to minimize their exposure to antibiotics, synthetic hormones and pesticides. Cheese is a natural food providing a dense source of nutrients. It is a good source of calcium and protein, which is essential for growing and maintaining strength and density of bones and teeth, and preventing osteoporosis. It supports normal cardiovascular, thyroid, and muscular function. Research has shown milk from pasture-fed cows to be higher in nutritional value and antioxidant levels compared to milk from non-pastured cows.
Beyond the personal health benefits of eating organic cheese, sustainable organic production methods promote the health of all life on earth, now and for the future. Like all Organic Valley dairy products, Vermont Cheddar Cheese is produced by family farmers in harmony with nature without antibiotics, synthetic hormones or pesticides. Their animals are raised humanely and given certified organic feed and their pastures are certified organic.
