"Busy American kids are so overwhelmed with unhealthy food choices that grab-and-go organic options can be true life savers," said Alan Greene, M.D., the nationally-renowned pediatrician who founded one of the nation's first on-line medical websites (www.drgreene.com). "Parents should do everything they can to give their kids more on-the-go organic options."
Anywhere a juice box can go, Organic Valley's new Single Serve Shelf Stable Milk can go. The milks are available in shelf-stable cartons that don't need refrigeration. Already a custom in Europe, organic milk in shelf stable cartons lets health-conscious parents give their kids organic milk any time, any where, without all the worry of keeping it cold. The packaging process keeps the milk so safe and fresh it can be stored at room temperature for up to six months until opened. While many people may still prefer to keep their milk chilled, this product offers flexible "out-of-the-fridge" storage for families and retailers.
The milk comes in box-shaped containers with a fun, kid-friendly Holstein pattern. Made out of 70% high quality paperboard, 24% polyethylene, and 6% aluminum, the package uses 60% less plastic than other forms of packaging, and requires less energy to manufacture, fill, ship and store than almost any other packaging. It was given the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development in 1996.
Organic Valley's shelf stable milk is low in fat (1%) and is based on the USDA's recommendations for children's milk. It comes in two flavors, chocolate and plain, and both flavors come in individual 8-ounce containers, as well as convenient family four-packs. Like all Organic Valley milk, single serves are produced according to national organic standards without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones or pesticides. The suggested retail price is $1.49 per 8-ounce carton.
