Organic Valley Sponsors Preserve's "Gimme 5" program to recycle #5 containers into new Preserve Products
At Organic Valley, we are committed to pursuing sustainability in every thing we do to get delicious organic foods from our farms to your table. That's why we are pleased to provide an opportunity for our customers to recycle their #5 plastic packaging right where they shop.
Why #5?
With polypropylene #5 plastic packaging, we use significantly less plastic than we would if our cups were HDPE #2 plastic. #5 plastic is most commonly used as a strong, lightweight, food-grade plastic. Organic Valley uses #5 plastic as our choice package for these items: Whipped Butter, Sour Cream, Ricotta, Cream Cheese tubs, Neufchatel tubs, and Cottage.
Some communities, however, don’t recycle #5 containers. If you are out of ways to reuse your Organic Valley tubs & cups, and if #5 plastic recycling isn’t available in your area, you can take your CLEAN Organic Valley cups & tubs to a participating Whole Foods Market store, and you’ll be an active participant in Preserve’s® Gimme 5 program, sponsored by Organic Valley, Whole Foods Market & Stonyfield Farm.
Thanks to a partnership with Preserve, Organic Valley and Stonyfield Farm are sponsoring the Preserve "Gimme5" recycling initiative with Whole Foods Market. Simply bring your #5 containers back to the participating Whole Foods Market store, and give them a second life in a new and useful eco-friendly Preserve product. Together, we can save thousands of pounds of #5 plastic from being sent to landfills.
Look for "Gimme 5" recycling bins in a Whole Foods store near you throughout 2009. In the future, we hope to expand the program to serve a variety of local grocers. We all can make a difference!
