I know it's expensive to eat organic, but I always say: "Pay now to the organic farmers or pay later to the doctors".

Hi Steve - Thanks for your comments. Recently we instituted a small price increase, which is only the second price increase since 2008. This largely reflects agricultural and economical impacts including heat, drought, flooding and high organic livestock feed costs (due to limited supply). It's important as we start 2012 to support our farmers during these difficult times by increasing our farmer pay price.
There are various factors that go into the pricing for our nutritious organic products. It's always been a mission of our coop to pay our farmers a fair, sustainable, livable wage, so we're very careful to keep our prices in line with the actual costs of production. We also pay our farmers premiums for high quality milk, and have what we believe to be the best dairy quality assurance program in the nation. We think all these things translate to the highest quality milks and cheeses, and hear from many OV fans that they can taste the difference in our products. We think it's worth it and hope you do too.
