Organic Valley's buttermilk is enjoyed by many as a nutritious beverage with an old-fashioned flavor. Buttermilk is also wonderful for baking, lending a rich, hearty flavor and light flaky texture, with fewer calories than whole milk or cream. It is a great base for creating soups or salad dressings, and it makes an effective and flavorful marinade because of its high acidity. Buttermilk is often used to coat poultry and fish before frying or baking. The tangy flavor of buttermilk goes well with sweet fruits and desserts, as well. The name is deceptive because it contains no butter, and is actually a low fat dairy product. Buttermilk is an excellent source of calcium and riboflavin, and a good source of potassium and vitamin B12. A diet containing naturally fermented foods such as buttermilk, yogurt, sourdough breads, sauerkraut, and pickles provide enzymes which operate in the digestive tract to enhance digestibility of and assimilation of nutrients from food.

Hi Louise - Great news, Organic Valley Buttermilk does not contain any egg products at anytime of the year. In efforts to be truly transparent, we list all of our ingredients on the label. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy our delicious buttermilk!
Hello, because we add the cultures after the milk is pasteurized, some cultures could still be viable in the product through its shelf life. However, we do not make claims about the levels of those live cultures at this time.
Also, in general remarks, I would like a 16 oz. version of buttermilk, too, but I usually use it in pancakes, so I freeze what I do not use and it is fine for baking. Not sure about drinking it straight, though!
Thank you Organic Valley for such great products!
Thank you
Hi Connie, We do offer a buttermilk powder! Check out our Buttermilk Blend!
Hi MP, Our buttermilk is "cultured" with the live cultures Lactococcus lactis and Leuconostoc cremoris.
