Our ultra pasteurized organic milk contains all the wholesome goodness you expect from Organic Valley. We start with fresh, whole milk from pastured cows on the organic family farms of our cooperative. The milk is ultra pasteurized and then homogenized. Ultra pasteurization is a special flash heating and cooling technology that keeps milk fresh and nutritious up to three times longer than traditionally pasteurized varieties. Many people prefer this type of milk for its longer shelf life. Ultra pasteurized milk is available in quarts and half gallons.

I live in Oregon where almost everyone is vitamin D deprived (clouds, clouds, clouds). I assumed I was getting vit D from my milk but just checked the label. I buy the 32 oz size and it does not have vit D. Can you start adding it?

VERY annoyed to see that I've been giving my 1 yr old and 3 yr old milk with ZERO vitamin D, pediatrician perscribed supplements! You need to point-out to people that certain products lack vitamin D!! This is confusing parents and hurting kids!!!!

Hi Edward, Organic Valley produces both vitamin fortified and non fortified whole milk. The federal government does not require them added into milk unless the milk has a reduced fat content, as in 2%, 1% or skim milks. When altering the fats we lose the naturally occurring vitamins that are present in whole milk. All whole milk contains naturally occurring vitamin D, at levels that are dependent on the season and the region where the milk is produced.

As a courtesy to consumers, we do add vitamins to some of our whole milks. We have requests both to have them added and to not add them to the whole milk.

If you would like to purchase whole milk with added vitamins then you need to look for the HTST, or regularly pasteurized milk. The ultra pasteurized (UP) whole milk is not fortified with vitamins, with one exception. One ultra pasteurized milk plant does add vitamin D to the half gallon whole milk (51-4109). To confirm that your Organic Valley milk product is, or is not, fortified with vitamin D, always check the carton labeling.

The half gallon milk is available regularly pasteurized and ultra pasteurized. The gallon milk is only available regularly pasteurized, thus without added vitamin D.

I just discovered your whole milk in the 32 oz container is not fortified with vitamin D! Why not? I had wanted to use it for my toddler, but not without the vitamin D....... I'll look for another source.
