Ultra Pasteurized, 64 oz

Ultra pasteurized, pasture-raised organic milk contains all the fresh, wholesome goodness you expect from Organic Valley.

What do we mean by “Pasture-Raised”?

All Organic Valley dairy farms are pasture-based, meaning the major portion of the cows’ diet comes from pasture. Since grazing is a bedrock principle of our organic farming system and philosophy, we long ago created a strict pasture policy, which we are proud to say was the model for a supplemental federal rule in the USDA’s National Organic Standards. We believe that when cows eat well, you do too! Learn more about the nutritional qualities of pasture-raised milk.

Organic Valley pasture-raised milk is homogenized and ultra pasteurized—a modern flash-heating and cooling technology that keeps milk fresh, safe and nutritious for a longer time than does traditional pasteurization. This delicious milk is available in your local dairy aisle in quarts and half gallons.

I hope that you'll continue to provide the shelf stable w/out added vitamins. LIke many here, I'm sensitive to corn, and the corn emulsions used for most vitamin d/a fortifications cause severe sinus pain for me, and I know others suffer from anaphylaxis from this minute exposure. Having a brand that is available nation wide is a real benefit for us when traveling. In the past, I'd been told that some (but not all) of your facilities use sunflower oil for the vitamin D carrier. If there is still regional variability in this, I'd encourage you to include the carriers in your ingredients as this information is very helpful for food allergic people.

No worries, Stacey!  At this time, I'm unaware of any plans to discontinue our liter of aseptic whole milk without add Vitamin D. Thank you very much for your feedback. I've happily forwarded all of your comments onto our product. Cheers!

When will adding the vitamin D take place in the ultra pasteurized whole milk? I have food allergies and the unfortified milk is the only one I can drink. I am stocking up on it now, but I want to know how long it will still be available. Also, can you freeze it directly in the carton?
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Natalie - That transition should be complete by the end of May, although we will still be offering our liter sized aseptic whole milk without added vitamin D.

While freezing products for preservation is a good idea, we don't recommend it for our fluid milk as it changes its texture/consistency. However, if you choose to do so, be sure to re-package it as our cartons are not designed to be frozen and may leak the seams.

Please leave those of us with corn and other allergies at least 1 version of your milk that we can drink that is not fortified with vitamins. We have such little variety left in our diets. It would be a shame to take away our dairy too.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thank you for your feedback, Jane! We are now adding Vitamin D to both our traditionally pasteurized and ultra pasteurized whole milk. However, we still offer our shelf-stable liters of aseptic (UHT) whole milk without added Vitamin D along with our Nonfat Dry Milk Powder

As a person allergic to corn and corn derivatives, I have been thrilled with the option OV has offered in the its ultrapasteurized milk WITHOUT vitamin D. Carriers for vitamins are often derived from corn, which means I cannot use the milk. Can you tell me what the carrier is for the vitamin D now added to this milk? By the way, this has been the ONLY safe milk available for me in the past, so I am concerned that this vitamin carrier will make this milk problematic for me. Does OV still offer non-fortified whole milk even though it is not listed on this site?
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thanks for the note, no2corn! Our Vitamin D is made by processing a sterol derived from Lanolin (sheep wool). However, it's important to note that there is an emulsifier used as an ingredient in our vitamins which is derived from corn.

We still offer our shelf-stable liter of aseptic (UHT) whole milk without added Vitamin D along with our Nonfat Dry Milk Powder. The easiest way to know if your OV milk contains added vitamins is to check the ingredient label as they will all be listed on there.

Today I bought your carton of whole milk, with Vitamin D and ultra past'd. On top where it says "farmer owned" here, it says "pasture raised" on today's purchase. I actually thought that I was buying your new 100% grass fed milk... At the Mother's Market where I got it I was told that I was getting a new product.

Could you tell me what I bought? It doesn't seem like it's the new grass milk. Nor does it fit anywhere under Whole Milk.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Vera - Great question! What you have described sounds like our traditional line of whole milk (not out Grassmilk™). The recent changes we've made to our milk cartons are the differences you're referring to. They highlight that all of our farmers practice pasture-based production by stating "Pasture-Raised" on them!

What makes our Grassmilk™ different is that it comes from cows that are 100% grass-fed. Cows that produce our other milk may receive supplemental grains/legumes. Two other things that make our Grassmilk™ unique is that it is non-homogenized and comes from northern California's Humboldt County.

This is great milk for vegetarians as there is no vit-D. Thanks!!
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thanks, Jain! I would like to note, in the near future, we will be adding vitamin D to all of our fluid whole milk products, both traditionally pasteurized and ultra pasteurized. To confirm that your milk is, or is not, fortified with vitamin D, always check the carton label. Thanks!

Anastasia from WA on April 20th, 2012
Thank you, Organic Valley for milk without any vitamins. Our family delighted in your product and we buy it on regular basis. We have done a bit of research and would rather get our vitamens naturally through other foods they are found in... naturally
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Anastasia - Thank you so much for your very kind words! We're thrilled to hear how much you and your family enjoy our delicious, organic milk! Please note, in the near future, we will be adding vitamin D to all of our fluid whole milk products, both traditionally pasteurized and ultra pasteurized. To confirm that your whole milk is, or is not, fortified with vitamin D, always check your carton labeling!

After the pediatrician recommends us not to give extra vitamins to our girl to see if that can help with a kidney condition, we are trying to give non-vitamins-added milk to her. Your "red label" milk is the only one at Publix that don't carry the "vitamins A & D" label added...sometimes. Could you make the difference a little more clear in the packaging? Is it possible to include a "no extra vitamins added" label? I did not know you have both types and once I found at home that I got the wrong one. I thought you stop selling the non-vits!!!.

Thanks for your great product!
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the great feedback! I'll be sure to pass your suggestion along to our product team.

As a courtesy to our consumers, we do add vitamins to *some* of our whole milks. We have requests both to have them added and to not add them to the whole milk.

Our whole milk with added vitamins is primarily found in the HTST, or regularly pasteurized milk. The ultra pasteurized (UP) whole milk is not fortified with vitamins, with one exception. One ultra pasteurized milk plant does add vitamin D to the whole milk (plant #51-4109). To confirm that your Organic Valley milk product is not fortified with vitamin D, always check the carton label.

I am looking for this milk around where I live but can't seem to find it anywhere (I have looked in all the possible grocery stores in my city and the ones close to it too!) I live in Hackensack, NJ and I could easily find this milk when I lived in Fairfax, VA and Westbury, NY. I want this milk in particular since it has NO vitamin D!! Just pure milk as it's supposed to be! Please help!!
Shelby from Canton, GA on December 3rd, 2011
Wow! What a blessing this milk has been! When our local creamery stopped carrying straight-from-the-farm milk (pasteurized for human consumption) at their store, I was saddened. Then I found OV, and I cannot be happier!
