Wow! After reading these negative comments it exposes how ridiculous and fanatical vegetarians are. Animals were meant to give us FOOD and be our food! Just accept it. You guys worship animals and it's gone way too far! IF you don't like the fish oil in this milk than use the other one without it! Don't limit our world just because yours is! Thank you OV for ALL the products you provide.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thank you for your continued support, Carri!

The fish oil in the Omega milk has now contaminated what used to be a vegetarian-friendly product into a non-vegetarian product. It has also contaminated EVERYTHING made with that product, where ingredients may not be disclosed, like at someone's home. We tell people that we drink milk, but we can't do THAT anymore! Thanks, Organic Valley, for creating this vegetarian obstacle. We'll be sure to tell people to NOT use this product. It is NOT vegetarian.

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you so much for your feedback! We started offering our organic milk with added Omega-3 as an option for those who wanted to get a little more Omega-3 into their diets. However, it is important to note that we will never stop offering our traditional line of milk too, for folks like you who just want delicious, organic milk!

The reason we use fish oil is because we found that it's a natural and superior/complete source for DHA and EPA Omega-3. EPA and DHA are the long chain Omega-3's naturally found in fatty fish, such as tuna, salmon, herring, and sardines. Even though plant oils such as flax contain beneficial ALA, our bodies can't convert ALA to the longer chain EPA and DHA very efficiently, so it's best to get EPA and DHA directly from fish, foods fortified with fish, or fish oil supplements.

In efforts to be truly transparent, we've recently revamped our Omega-3 milk cartons, which now indicate a fish source on the front of the package. You should be seeing this change on your stores shelves in the coming months. Thank you again for your comments.

Hello, just wanted to ask how many Mg of omega 3 per serving does your milk contain?
Tracy at Organic Valley

Great question, Cynthia! Our Omega-3 milk contains 100mg of Omega-3 per one cup (240 ml) serving.

After reading so many negative comments , I felt I should write too , not negative though .

Please don't ever stop the Omega-3 added milk line of yours .

My daughter drinks this milk , and every day I feel satisfied that she has her required nutrition .
It takes my burden off and gives me peace of my mind .Seriously .
Also OV as brand ( when I had googled to find about the best organic milk available ) was among the best quality . :-)
I just have only one complaint , to get this particular milk I have to go all the way to wholefoods which quite far from my place.
I hope you will make this available in other grocery stores too.
Thanks
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thanks, Sonal! It really makes us smile knowing how thankful you are for our Omega-3 milk! You might find our store locator  useful for tracking down other retailers in your area who might carry our Omega-3 variety. Be sure to give a call ahead to see if they stock this particular item, and if they don't, request they do! Best of luck. Cheers!

fish oil in milk. dishonest and sick. you should have a picture of a fish on the front of the milk carton so people know what they are buying. in the history of milk being available in grocery stores for the last hundred years....nobody has the slightest idea that some company would pervert what is considered pure by adding fish oil!
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thank you for your comments, Pat! We started offering our organic milk with added Omega-3 as an option for those who wanted to get a little more Omega-3 into their diets. Rest assured, we will never stop offering our traditional line of milk too, for people like you who just want delicious, organic milk!

In efforts to be truly transparent, we're always sure to list any added ingredients on our package label. In this case, you'll notice "Fish Gelatin (Tilapia)" listed under the ingredient section of our Omega-3 milk cartons. We'll be sure to pass your comments along to our product team as they are continually looking for ways to improve our wholesome products. Thanks!

I do not, I repeat i do not like your Omega added! I will go back to Horizon! I dont see any need to add fish oils, gels, what ever it may be. Im at the point of putting me a cow in my own back yard!
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Becky Ann - Thank you for your comments. We only add Omega-3 to our "Omegs-3" milk line. We will never stop producing our traditional milk for folks like you who just want delicious, organic milk!

Jennifer from Boise, Idaho on March 26th, 2012
I am deeply troubled by Organic Valley's including fish into any of their products. As a strict vegetarian I have always been happy with the company's offerings and the portrayal of caring for animals. I guess fish aren't considered important enough not to kill because of a marketing push. Omega 3s can be found in flax seed. There is no need to kill in order to obtain this important oil, not to mention accessible to everyone.

I am BOYCOTTING all your products until this is pulled from the shelves. I have spread the word and I am sure many will follow in an attempt to correct this terrible offering to consumers.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for the note.

We are offering our organic milk with added Omega-3 as an option for those folks who want to get more Omega-3 into their own, or their children's, diets. However, we will never stop providing our line of traditional milks too, for folks like you who just want delicious organic milk!

We found that fish oil is a natural and superior/complete source for DHA and EPA Omega-3.  Omega-3 fats include: Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA); Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA); and, Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA).  ALA is a short-chain Omega-3, found mostly in plant sources, such as flax and greens. EPA and DHA are the long-chain Omega-3s found naturally in fatty fish, such as tuna, salmon, herring and sardines.  Even though plant oils such as flax contain beneficial ALA, our bodies can't convert ALA to the longer chain EPA and DHA very efficiently, so it's best to get EPA and DHA directly from fish, foods fortified with fish oil, or fish oil supplements.

Please know that, just like you, we are also very concerned about animal welfare and sustainability.  Our reputable Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited Meg-3® fish oil is sourced from real fish -- EPA/DHA-rich anchovies and sardines wild harvested by a sustainable fishery.  The fishery is highly regulated and protected by the Peruvian government to ensure that it remains biodiverse and entirely sustainable. In fact, it has maintained a consistent anchovy and sardine population for the past 50 years, and with careful stewardship, it will continue well into the future.

Please feel free to read more about our animal care standards, and our Omega-3 source on our website.

Thank you for your comments. We’ll be sure our product team hears your concerns.

Your regular product is excellent!!! However, I just threw away the Omega crap, tasted curdled to me, chocolate did not even help. FYI most tilapia is farmed and not worth even extracting the gelatin. Bad decision; fire the guy and move on.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Mary,

We're very sorry to hear about your recent experience. I've sent you a direct message so I can get a little more information from you on the off flavor you described.

We offer the Omega-3 varieties for those folks who want the opportunity to get extra Omega-3 in their organic milk. We will never stop providing our line of traditional milks too, for folks like you who just want delicious organic milk!

Thanks for your feedback, we'll be sure our product team hears your comments.

OV Whole Milk's taste is second to none for taste and wholesomeness. I have done a lot of research on diferent brands of milk. I wish commercial milk producers were allowed to market WHOLE "RAW" milk. Most of the nutrients are lost through pasteurization. Also, I wish there was a source for "Fresh" natural yogurt. My mother used to make it when I was a child growing up on a farm.
Tracy at Organic Valley

Thanks for your comments, Glenn. Happy you like our deliciously wholesome milk!

Rossmel from Irvine, CA on February 20th, 2012
I've been looking everywhere but have not been able to find any information about what your dairy cows are fed.

Are they corn-fed or strictly grass/grain-fed?

Thank you!
Tracy at Organic Valley

Hi Rossmel,

Thanks for the note. Our co-op requires all of its farmers to practice pasture-based production, meaning that a significant portion of our cows' diets comes from pasture. We recognize that cows are ruminant animals whose stomachs are designed to eat grass and forage plants. Since 1995 we have had a pasture policy with minimum requirements (which we fought very hard to have included in the national organic standards) of 120 days of pasture each year, with grazing supplying a minimum of 30% of total diet (average dry matter intake). Many of our farmers are able to provide much more of their cows' diet from grazing. However, very few have the conditions that allow for a 100% grass diet to fully meet the nutritional needs of their animals (many of our farmers also are in the northern regions where pasture is only available for approximately half the year, but some of our farmers in the west are able to graze year-round). Their overall diet is rounded out with dried forages, silage, and grains as appropriate and available. Grains include corn, barley, soybeans, oats, field peas, and flax.
