Star anise, cardamom and cinnamon add spunk to this festive mulled wine. (The spices can be found in bulk at natural foods stores and spice shops). For a non-alcoholic alternative, replace the wine with bottled organic cranberry drink.

  • 25 fluid ounces cranberry wine (or 4 cups bottled cranberry drink)
  • 1 12 cups organic orange juice
  • 6-8 star anise tips
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 2 sticks cinnamon (four-inch long sticks)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons dried cranberries
  • cinnamon sticks (as garnish)
  • handful orange slices (as garnish)

Combine cranberry wine (or drink), orange juice, star anise, cardamom, 2 cinnamon sticks, honey and dried cranberries in a large saucepan. Bring to lowest simmer, cover and cook about 5 minutes. Turn off heat and let mixture steep 1 or more hours.

Strain liquid and return it to a saucepan. Reheat the glogg just before serving. Garnish each cupful with a cinnamon stick and an orange slice.
