Like a Trojan Horse, this concoction is a stealthy, pleasing way to slip a heaping helping of leafy greens past the vegetable-averse. The blueberries act as camouflage of sorts, deliciously obscuring the greens behind a fruity smoke screen. Start with a handful of mild, baby spinach and work up to more robust greens such as kale for even more nutritional punch. Those new to green smoothies may want to add a bit of sweetener—a dash of honey, maple syrup or a packet of stevia—if the fruit isn’t sweet enough to taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Organic Valley Orange Juice
  • 1 organic banana, peeled and chunked
  • 12 teaspoon spirulina powder
  • 1 cup frozen organic pineapple chunks
  • 12 cup frozen organic blueberries
  • 1 handful organic spinach, strip away thick stems
  • Optional:
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1 tablespoon bee pollen
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • or other superfood supplements

Directions

Pour the juice into the blender container. Add the banana and spirulina powder and blend to form a creamy slurry. Now add the frozen fruit. Blend on low speed until the fruit begins to break down a bit; then blend on high until the mixture becomes uniformly smooth.

Add the greens last—a bit at a time—blending after each addition. Start on low speed initially and work up to a full-tilt buzz until the concoction is smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add more juice to achieve the desired consistency.

Enjoy immediately.
