Almost any manner of intensely flavored tidbits--fresh or dried herbs, roasted vegetables, edible flowers--can be suspended in softened butter to create a versatile spread.
Use a wooden spoon to blend all ingredients until creamy.
Transfer butter to a sheet of waxed paper and roll it up into the shape of a log. Twist the ends tightly. Place in a plastic bag and chill (or freeze) it.
Unwrap a log and slice it into rounds. (If you have frozen the butter, thaw it in the refrigerator before slicing it.) Use it to top on grilled steak, pork chops, chicken, fish, etc.
The softened butter also may be folded into mashed potatoes, hot rice or pasta, or it can be spread on sandwiches, crackers, etc.
