We all know that eggs are a smart choice, but Organic Valley is stepping up to make sure you get the most from the eggs you feed your family. That’s why we are introducing Smart Eggs™, eggs that are loaded with all sorts of good stuff like omega-3 to aid in proper brain development.

Our Smart Eggs contain three times—yes, three times—more omega-3 fatty acids needed to support brain health compared to standard eggs. Smart Eggs are a delicious, naturally nutritious food that make it easy to get all-important omega-3s on your family’s plate, be it breakfast, lunch, supper or any time in between. Now, that’s just smart!

Health experts are smitten with the overall benefits of eggs too. The nutrients in Smart Eggs are good for brain development, and eggs are loaded with protein and essential vitamins. Protein builds muscle, repairs tissues, grows hair, and even repairs our cells.

Our eggs are also super versatile. Try Smart Eggs in a tasty omelet or egg bake, hard boil a handful for quick grab-and-go snacks, use them in your favorite baked goods or simply fry a few for a quick breakfast that fills your kiddos’ bellies and keeps them on the track to healthy brain development.
Omega-3-enriched Organic Valley Smart Eggs have all the goodness of Organic Valley’s classic organic brown eggs but with 225 mg of omega-3 essential fatty acid per egg. Each Smart Egg includes 60 mg of DHA omega-3.

But how do we “make” more nutritious eggs?

It’s not about us. It’s all about healthy and happy chickens! All Organic Valley laying hens are free-range, which means they have access to organic pastures, room to spread their wings, and time to behave as chickens should—strutting, clucking, and being spunky. On top of that, the hens’ diet includes flaxseed, which contains the beneficial omega-3 essential fatty acid DHA. More omega-3 in the hens’ diets means more omega-3 in the eggs for you and your family!

Our USDA Certified Organic hens are Free to Forage with no added hormones, antibiotics, or toxic pesticides—ever. Of course, on rainy days, these little ladies stay cozy and dry in their coop, where they also have plenty of room to move around, perch, and enjoy good food. Providing an ideal environment and excellent care to our Organic Valley chickens are our top priorities, which means healthier, more nutritious, delicious eggs.

Let’s not forget another great reason to choose Smart Eggs: the packaging! Organic Valley Smart Eggs come in packages made of 100% recycled material that is not only recyclable, but also compostable.

All About Omega-3s

  • Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to human health but cannot be manufactured by the body. They must be obtained from food.
  • It is important to maintain an appropriate balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the diet as the two work together to promote health. These fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function and the body’s inflammatory response, as well as in growth and development.
  • The ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 in the diet is 1-to-3. Most Americans’ diets are believed to be about 1-to-20 because they contain excessive omega-6 fatty acids and too few omega-3 fatty acids.
