All About Omega-3s

  • Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to human health but cannot be manufactured by the body. They must be obtained from food.
  • It is important to maintain an appropriate balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the diet as the two work together to promote health. These fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function and the body’s inflammatory response, as well as in growth and development.
  • The ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 in the diet is 1-to-3. Most Americans’ diets are believed to be about 1-to-20 because they contain excessive omega-6 fatty acids and too few omega-3 fatty acids.
